Play free Spades online: the classic 4-player partnership card game with Nil, Blind Nil, bags and smart bots.
About the game
Spades is the classic American partnership trick-taking card game, and this free online version lets you play Spades with a partner right in your browser. Four players form two teams: you and the bot partner sitting across from you play against two bot rivals. Each hand deals 13 cards to every player, and everyone bids how many tricks they expect to win. Your team contract is the sum of both partners' bids. Make the contract and you score 10 points per trick bid; fall short and you lose the same amount. Every extra trick is a bag worth 1 point, but collect 10 bags and your team loses 100 points, so the real skill is bidding exactly right. If you are sure you will not take a single trick, bid Nil for +100 or -100. When your team is behind by 100 points or more, you can even bid Blind Nil before looking at your cards, for a swing of 200 points. You must follow the suit that was led. If you cannot, you may trump with a spade or throw off any other card. Spades are always trump, and they cannot be led until they have been broken, meaning someone has trumped a trick with a spade. The bid panel shows a suggested bid based on a real hand evaluation, which makes it a great way to learn the Spades card game. The bots are strong: they evaluate hands like experienced players, count the cards that have been played, remember who is void in which suit, cover their partner's Nil and try to set yours. You can also play Spades online with friends: create a room, share the code and team up with a friend, while bots fill any empty seats. Play a classic game to 500 points or a quick match to 250. Every match you win moves you up a level against sharper rivals and unlocks new neon card backs. Spades runs on a dark neon table in portrait and landscape on phones and with the keyboard on desktop. It is free to play online with no download and no sign-up, and there is no betting or money of any kind.
How to play
- You and the bot partner across the table are a team against two bot rivals. Each player gets 13 cards.
- In the bid panel choose how many tricks you will win (the suggested bid is marked in green). Bid NIL if you will take none. If your team trails by 100+, you can bid BLIND NIL before seeing your cards.
- Follow the suit that was led. If you are void, trump with a spade or discard. Spades cannot be led until they are broken.
- Make your contract for 10 points per trick bid, plus 1 point and 1 bag per overtrick. 10 bags cost 100 points. A successful Nil scores +100, a failed one -100.
- The first team to 500 (or 250 in a quick match) wins. Win a match to level up and keep playing against stronger rivals. Online: choose ONLINE · 4-PLAYER TABLE, create a room or join with a code; the host picks their partner and bots fill empty seats.

FAQ
What are Nil and Blind Nil in Spades?
Nil is a bid that you will win no tricks at all in the hand: it scores +100 for your team if you succeed and -100 if you take a trick, while your partner's bid is scored on its own. Blind Nil is a Nil bid made before looking at your cards and is worth 200 points either way; it is only allowed when your team is behind by 100 points or more and the option is on in the menu.
How do bags work in Spades?
Every trick your team wins above its contract is a bag worth 1 point. Bags carry over from hand to hand, and when a team reaches 10 bags it loses 100 points and the count drops by 10. The dots on the scoreboard show your bags and turn red from 7 onward.
When are spades broken and when can you lead a spade?
Spades are broken the first time a player plays a spade because they cannot follow the suit that was led. After that, anyone may lead a spade. A player holding nothing but spades may lead one even before they are broken.
Can I play Spades online with friends?
Yes. Pick ONLINE · 4-PLAYER TABLE in the menu: create a room and send the code or invite link to friends, or find world players. Up to 4 people sit at the table and empty seats are filled by bots clearly labeled BOT. The host chooses their partner, so two friends can play on the same team. There is no chat, and online matches do not affect your career level.
